All the news that fits, we print.
This is the 387th issue of the World Wine News publication. Its main goal is to inform you of what's going on around Wine. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. Think of it as a Windows compatibility layer. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely alternative implementation consisting of 100% Microsoft-free code, but it can optionally use native system DLLs if they are available. Wine in Buildroot | Archive | |
---|---|---|
From the Buildroot website: Buildroot is a set of Makefiles and patches that makes it easy to generate a complete embedded Linux system. Buildroot can generate any or all of a cross-compilation toolchain, a root filesystem, a kernel image and a bootloader image. Buildroot is useful mainly for people working with small or embedded systems, using various CPU architectures (x86, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC, etc.) : it automates the building process of your embedded system and eases the cross-compilation process. Wine 1.6.2 can now be built with Buildroot when using its git version. This feature will land in 2015.05 and might open new ways for testing Wine while it's also possible to simply build a very minimal Wine installation. It's quite easy to update the Wine recipe to a newer version like 1.7.38 and test it with varying versions of the surrounding software including the C library, the Kernel, the compiler and most of the dependencies of Wine. With some tweaking all this can be done on all architectures currently supported by Wine (x86, x86_64, PowerPC, ARM, ARM64) and it can also be useful for porting Wine to new architectures. |
