All the news that fits, we print.
This is the 390th issue of the World Wine News publication. Its main goal is to inform you of what's going on around Wine. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. Think of it as a Windows compatibility layer. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely alternative implementation consisting of 100% Microsoft-free code, but it can optionally use native system DLLs if they are available. USB Support | Archive | |
---|---|---|
Wine USB support was discussed again. Steve asked: USB Support has been on the list of possible release criteria basically forever. I've read through all the old threads and other discussions I could find and it boils down to "really hard to do right". Stefan answered: I'm not an expert on this, but as far as I understand it the first problem that needs to be solved is properly registering USB devices in the device tree in the registry. This doesn't even involve Windows USB drivers and is as "simple" as advertising a USB mass storage device that's handled by Linux / OSX as a USB mass storage device instead of a fixed hard drive, with the proper vendor and device ID etc. Read the full thread: 107330 107333 107335 107336 107349 107350 107423 107455 107462 107463 107467 107469 |
