Just in time for Christmas, a new CVS snapshot is out, wine-0.9.4. As you might have noticed, we're seeing more snapshots now that we're in beta. We'll cover that process in more detail in this week's Wine Weekly News. Until then, happy compiling!

Coinciding with today's beta release of Wine, CodeWeavers announced version 5.0 of CrossOver Office. See the official press release and announcement for more details. This version has a lot of new stuff under the hood, a lot of which can be found in Wine's beta release. The biggest news in this version is the support for Microsoft Office 2003. A new idea, bottles, allows for the management of Windows applications.

This is release 0.9 of Wine, a free implementation of Windows on Unix. After 12 years of development, this release marks the beginning of the beta testing phase. Everybody is encouraged to try it; while there are still bugs, most applications are expected to at least install and do something useful.
Because of lags created by using mirrors, this message may reach you before the release is available at the ftp sites. The sources will be available from the following locations:
