Wine 0.9.9 Released

Wine 0.9.9 was released yesterday. Quite a few major additions appeared in this release, including:

  • Many new features and improvements in Richedit.
  • More Web browser support.
  • Recursive directory change notifications.
  • Wine installation is now fully relocatable.
  • Direct3D 8 and 9 now use the same code.
  • Many debugger improvements.
  • Systray is now handled by the explorer process.

Wine 0.9.8 was released today. Some bug fixes for problems affecting some common applications may be in this release, including one for Photoshop. The following major additions were noted:

  • Better Web browser support.
  • Beginnings of a Wordpad application.
  • Many richedit improvements.
  • A number of Direct3D fixes.
  • A few more options in winecfg.

Wine 0.9.7 was released on Thursday, February 2nd, approximately two weeks since the last release. The following changes were noted in the announcement:

  • Directory change notifications can use inotify now.
  • Hardware breakpoints in the Wine debugger.
  • Beginnings of support for tape APIs.
  • A bunch of improvements to the IDL compiler.
  • Better scheme for mapping My Documents etc. to Unix directories.

Just in time for Christmas, a new CVS snapshot is out, wine-0.9.4. As you might have noticed, we're seeing more snapshots now that we're in beta. We'll cover that process in more detail in this week's Wine Weekly News. Until then, happy compiling!

Alexandre noted the following changes:

  • Improvements to the IDL compiler.
  • Some infrastructure work for loadable driver support.
  • The usual assortment of Direct3D improvements.
  • IME support in the edit control.
  • Better support for AVI animations.
  • Debugging support improvements.
  • Relay traces now work on NX platforms.

  • Winelib Explorer app (just a wrapper around winefile for now).
  • Debugger cleanups and improvements.

  • A bunch of Korean translations.
  • Lots of bug fixes.

CrossOver Office 5.0

Coinciding with today's beta release of Wine, CodeWeavers announced version 5.0 of CrossOver Office. See the official press release and announcement for more details. This version has a lot of new stuff under the hood, a lot of which can be found in Wine's beta release. The biggest news in this version is the support for Microsoft Office 2003. A new idea, bottles, allows for the management of Windows applications.
